DNA婚活イベントに取材に行くことに
ケイトは自分の父親が無差別殺人犯の乃十阿徹かもしれないことが分かり、更にそのことで春樹から婚約破棄されてしまったため、気分はどん底だった。
春樹に振られてから半月で4キロも瘦せてしまったのだ。
ケイトは自分を奮い立たせて春樹を待ち伏せし、出勤前に一緒にお茶をしないかと誘う。
そしてケイトは春樹に「乃十阿徹が私の父親だという確証はないから、別れるという結論を出すのは早いんじゃないかな。撤回しない？撤回しください。」とお願いするのだが、春樹は「撤回しません。編集部では今まで通りよろしくお願いします。」と言って去って行ってしまうのだった。
そんな中、ケイトは岩谷に【DNA婚活】について調べるよう言われる。
唾液を結婚相談所に提出すると、結婚相談所が遺伝子的に相性の良い相手を選別して紹介してくれるらしい。
遺伝子的に相性の良い者同士の子供は身体の強い子が生まれるとのこと。
ケイトはうさん臭く感じるものの、さっそく実際のDNA婚活イベントの取材へと行く。
結婚相談所の事務員・笹野に話を聞きながらケイトは婚活イベントの様子を見る。
見た目や収入に関係なくDNAのマッチング率だけを頼りにしたグループ見合いが始まる中、司会者のテンションになにか洗脳めいたものを感じるケイト。
しかしなんと10組中9組がDNAの相性が一番いい相手を選ぶ結果となったのだ。
イベント終了後、ケイトは実際にカップル成立した方達に取材を行う。
その頃、春樹は編集長の岩谷に異動願いを直談判していた。春樹は岩谷にケイトと別れたことを告げるが、理由は言わなかった。
岩谷は「理由はどうあれ男女問題で異動はさせない。野中は大事な戦力だ。」と断る。
ケイトは会場を後にすると、先ほど1組だけマッチングしなかった男性参加者・山際と結婚相談所事務局の女性・笹野の訳アリな様子を目にする…。
春樹のケイトを見つめる目が冷たい…
その夜、ケイトは遺伝学の教授に会いに行き、【親の経験が子供に遺伝する】というマウス実験の話を聞く。
教授は「DNAには性格や経験も組み込まれており、遺伝子の意志こそが命の意志なのです。」と告げ、ケイトはもし自分が本当に乃十阿の子供なら殺人犯のDNAが自分の中に生きているかもしれないと陰鬱な気分で会社へと戻る。
ケイトは会社のパソコンで乃十阿について検索し、乃十阿が逮捕された時のニュース映像をYouTubeで見る。
すると春樹がまだ残っており、春樹は露骨に気まずそうな空気間を出す。
ケイトは春樹にコーヒーを差し出すのだが、春樹はケイトを恐ろしい人を見るかの様な目で見つめる。
ケイトは「そんな目で見ないでよ。私が何したって言うの。私が人殺しだとでも思ってるの？それって差別じゃない？そんな風に思ってたんだ。見損なったよ、野中。」と告げ、オフィスを後にする。
ケイトが泣きながら帰路に着いていると、コウモリの撮影に向かう途中の尾高と鉢合わせる。
ケイトは尾高の撮影に着いていくことに。
撮影が終わり、二人で帰路に着いていると、ケイトは尾高に乃十阿徹が自分の父親かもしれないことを話すが、まるで驚かない尾高にケイトはやはり尾高が自分に何かを隠していることを確信する。
尾高がケイトに隠していたことが明かされる！
尾高とケイトは二人でラーメン屋に行き、そこで尾高は「三年前、乃十阿の出所した時の写真を週刊イーストに掲載したろ？発売日の午後にケイトのお母さんから連絡があったんだ。」と話始める。
ーーー三年前の杏南と尾高の会話ーーー
杏南『尾高くん、乃十阿を追いかけるのはもう辞めて欲しいの。』
尾高『どうしてですか？お知り合いですか？』
杏南『その人、ケイトの父親なの。乃十阿と私は大学の講師と生徒だった。再会した時には乃十阿には妻子がいた。ケイトを授かった時、産もうと思った。証が欲しかったの。でも乃十阿は人を殺すような人ではありません。いつかケイトが乃十阿と私の接点を知るようになったら耐えられない。どうか、もう、そうっとしておいてください。そして、ケイトを生涯守ってあげてください。何もかもあなたが汲んであげて。分かるわね？ケイトを、お願いします。』
ケイトは尾高から話を聞き終えると「ママが乃十阿が私の父親って言ったんだ…。じゃあなんでキアヌが私の父親だなんて言ったの？」と尾高に聞くのだが、尾高は「帰ろうか。少しは寝た方がいいよ。」と言い、尾高はケイトを自宅まで送ってあげるのだった。
出社したケイトは、【DNA婚活】について、1組だけマッチングしなかった男性参加者・山際と事務員の笹野が何やら怪しいと見ていたので、さっそく山際の自宅へ行くことに。
山際は不在だったが、間もなくして山際と笹野が手を繋いで帰ってきて山際の部屋に入るところを目撃。
再びケイトは山際の部屋のチャイムを鳴らすと、山際が出てきた。
山際は取材を拒否するのだが、ケイトが大声で「笹野さ～ん中にいらっしゃいますよね？」と言うと、笹野も出てきたため仕方なく山際はケイトを自宅に入れることに。
DNAがなんだ！
山際と笹野は付き合っているのだが、二人のDNAの相性は最悪とのこと。そのため山際は笹野からDNAの相性が良い人を選んだほうが良いとしつこく進められていたため、山際は仕方なくDNA婚活イベントに参加したとのこと。
しかし山際は何度DNA婚活イベントに参加してもやっぱり笹野のことを愛しているため、「DNAなんて関係ない！結婚しよう！」とケイトの前で山際は笹野にプロポーズする。
ケイトは山際の「DNAなんて関係ない」という言葉に感動し、笹野に「こんなこと言ってくれる人なかなかいませんよ！大事にしてください！私は、DNAがなんだって記事を書きます。いいお話伺いました！ありがとうございました！」と言って、部屋を後にする。
オフィスに戻ったケイトは記事を書きあげ、上司からも「良い記事だ」と褒められるのだった。
春樹はケイトが書いた記事を読んで複雑な表情を浮かべる。
その夜、ケイトは岩谷と飲みに行く。岩谷はケイトに春樹が異動したがっていた話をするのだが、ケイトは「もうどうでもいいです。」と答えるのだった。
岩谷はケイトに「やっぱりケイトは尾高が合ってたな。」と言い、ケイトは「え～尾高さんもう奥さんもお子さんもいますよ。」と困惑する。
その後、ケイトは尾高のもとを訪れる。
ケイトは尾高に「ママとの約束で乃十阿のことずっと黙っていたのに、なんでこの前話してくれたの？」と尋ねると尾高は「苦しそうだったから。」と答える。
ケイトは「覚えてる？私にプロポーズしてくれた時のこと。」と尋ねる。
尾高からのプロポーズをケイトは断っていたのだ。
ケイトは「あれってなんで？。結婚とかしないでこのまま仲良くやっていけたらいいねって言ってのに。」と尋ね、尾高は「それはケイトを離したくなかったからだよ。だけどそんな昔のことどうした？」と告げる。
ケイトは「大事なことなの。私が乃十阿の子供だって分かってたのに、結婚しようって言ってくれたってこと？」と問いかけ、尾高は「うん。」と答える。
ケイトは泣きじゃくり『なんであの時気付かなったんだろう。なんでこの人を捨てて春樹に乗り換えたんだろう。時間よ、戻れ。』と後悔したのだった。

尾高は杏南からケイトの父親が乃十阿であることを聞かされていたのですね。しかもそれを知った上でケイトにプロポーズしていたなんて、尾高の株が急上昇です。
春樹が最悪すぎるので、尾高がより良い男に感じますね。
ケイトと春樹が夜のオフィスで二人きりになったシーンの、春樹のケイトを見る目つきが本当化け物でも見るかの様な目つきだったので、春樹って本当に最低だなあと思いました。
「誰が父親でもケイトを愛してる」って言ってた男と同一人物だとは思えませんね。
ケイトは尾高とあの時結婚していれば良かったですね。ケイト自身もとても後悔して泣きじゃくっていたので切なくなりました。
