夏の終り天陽は入院中の病院から抜け出し家に帰る。天陽は家に帰ると途中だった”馬の絵”を徹夜で完成させる。馬の絵を書き上げた天陽は靖枝に「靖枝と結婚して本当に良かった。子供たちを頼む。」と言い残すと一人畑を見に行く。
天陽はじゃがいも畑の土をすくうと「あったかいな。」とつぶやく。天陽はその場で倒れ静かに眠った。夏の終りのことだった。
天陽の収入に多くを頼っていた山田家は、天陽の絵を売り離農し北海道から離れることを考える。しかし、靖枝や天陽の子供は反対する。その決意は固かった。山田家は今後も北海道で暮らしていくことを決めた。
その後、なつが北海道を訪れたのは9月の初め、天陽の葬式が終わった後だった。
なつは天陽が描き上げた遺作の”馬の絵”を見る。馬の絵をみた優は「絵を動かすのがママの仕事でしょ？」と言う。
その頃、アニメーターを続けるか悩んでいたなつは、天陽の自画像と会話をする。天陽の「今のなっちゃんを動かしてるのは優ちゃんだろ。そしたら優ちゃんのために狩りをすればいいべさ。」という言葉になつは心を打たれ涙を流しながら笑った。
その後、雪之助に天陽にデザインしてもらった雪月の包装紙のを見せてもらう。その絵は北海道の草原に一人の少女が立っていた。
天陽はその絵に開拓者の思いを込めていた。生前、天陽は「もしなっちゃんが何かに挫けそうになった日はその紙で雪月のお菓子を包んで上げてください。」と雪之助に話していたという。
少しづつアニメーターとシテのやる気を取り戻してきたなつ。一久から貰った本”大草原の小さな家”のイメージ絵を描く。それを見た優は「ゆうちゃんこれ見たいよ。」となつに言う。
その言葉を聞いたなつは、家を決したように一久に電話をかけ”大草原の小さな家”のアニメ製作をしたいことを伝えた。
なつはマコプロダクションで”大草原の小さな家”の作画監督をやり、演出は一久がやることに決まった。
なつは東洋動画に退職願を出し、作画監督は堀内が受け継ぐ事になった。

”大草原の少女ソラ”の評判は
”大草原の少女ソラ”の初回放送、坂場一家や柴田家はテレビに食い入る。
その出来には、優や柴田家一同の反応は上々。なつと一久は喜んだ。
しかし、視聴率はあまり良くなく、テレビ局の反応は「話が地味すぎる。」とあまり良いものではなかったという。
放送から一月、打ち切りの話もでかかった時、マコプロに視聴者からの応援の手紙が殺到した。しかも、手紙は子供からよりも親からの手紙がほとんどだったという。
神地は「新しいものを作ってるんだ。良さに気づくのは時間がかかるんだよ。」と喜んだ。
そして、麻子は「もうプロデューサーと動画チェックをするのは限界。」と言う。代わりに入ってきてたのが茜だ。茜の子供は母親に家に来てもらい見てもらうことに鳴ったという。
懐かしい仲間にマコプロメンバーは喜んで受け入れた。
久しぶりの再会も・・・
そして、日曜日いつもどおりなつたちはマコプロの事務所で仕事をしている。麻子は優の面倒を見るために外で遊んでいると、そこに一人の少女が現れる。小さい頃のなつにそっくりだ。
”大草原の少女ソラ”を制作しているところだとしって来たという。麻子は喜んで少女を事務所に引き入れ、ソラのセル画を少女にプレゼントする。
少女の名前は”杉山千夏”。外で母親が待っているという。それを聞いたなつは何かに感づいたように思いつめた顔をする。
事務所から帰る千夏を追いかけるなつ。千夏と手を繋ぐ母親の後ろ姿を見てなつは「ちはる！ちはる・・・？」と声をかける。
ゆっくりと振り返った母親の顔は千遥だった。
その表情は久しぶりの再会とは思えない硬いものだった。

・”大草原の少女ソラ”は最初は不評だったものの、一月経つと好評に変わっていった。
・”大草原の少女ソラ”のファンとしてマコプロを訪れた千夏という少女。その母親は千遥だった。

しかし、千遥の表情は険しかったですね。なつに直接会わずに帰ろうとしていたということは顔を合わせづらい事情があるのでしょう。
来週の予告を見ると、また辛い人生を歩んでいたようですね。そして、泰樹が・・・。
先週は天陽くんが逝ってしまう悲しい週でしたが、来週もかなり悲しい週になりそうです。

東洋動画に別れの挨拶をし、正式に退職したなつ。新しく美術監督に陽平を迎えたなつたちマコプロメンバーはロケハンに北海道は十勝を訪れる。
一久はそこで聞いた泰樹の生い立ちをヒントになつと似た境遇の主人公のストーリーを考えた。
また、マコプロメンバーが立ち寄った雪月に突然、亜矢美が現れる。亜矢美はこれまで、新宿で再びステージに立つために資金を稼いでいたという。そして、その資金ももうすぐ貯まる。亜矢美は、「咲太郎に待ってなって伝えておいて。」となつに言った。
”大草原の少女ソラ”が完成し、初回放送を迎える。優や柴田家の反応は上々だったが、視聴率テレビ局の反応はイマイチだった。しかし、一月も経つと評判は上がり、ファンからの応援が手紙たくさん届くようになった。
ある日、マコプロを一人の少女が訪れる。名前は”杉山千夏”。”大草原の少女ソラ”のファンだという。そして、なつは千夏が帰る時、少女の手を引いていた母親を呼び止める。
