東洋動画で新しく始まるテレビ漫画”キックジャガー”の作画監督を務めることになったなつ。そして、”マコプロダクション”での仕事が始まった一久。
忙しい2人。優は茜が預ってもらうことになった。
キックジャガーは好評、なつが考えた最終回もお茶の間で大きな感動を呼び、大成功に終わった。
その後、茜は新しい子を妊娠する。その時、優は昼は保育園に預け、夜遅くなった時は茜にあずけていた。優を預けられなくなったなつは、次回は早く終わる仕事にしてもらおうと考える。
しかし、社長からは次回も作画監督をしてくれと懇願される。以前、直談判し産休明けの作画監督のお願いをしたこともあるなつは結局これを引き受ける。
引き受けたからには成功させようと忙しい日々を送るなつ。優は咲太郎に預かってもらうことになった。
「馬に乗りたい。」と言う優。なつは今度の夏休み、北海道に帰って馬に乗せてあげることを約束した。
そんなある日、なつの家を夕美子が訪れる。夕美子はいずれ農協を辞め雪月を手伝うという。
そして、天陽が入院中ということを伝える。風邪をこじらせただけと言うが・・・。

山田家の今後
前回、天陽が描いた馬の絵を見て「本物がいる。」と言った優。なつは「動かないのにそう思ったの？」と聞く。
優は「だって絵を動かすのはママの仕事でしょ？」と言う。その言葉を聞いたなつは泣き崩れた。
天陽の両親は、天陽が言っていた「来週退院できる。」という事実はなかったという。天陽は自分が近い内に死ぬことを悟って家に帰ってきたのではないか。と母・タミは泣き崩れた。
天陽がいなくなった今、山田家はこの先、離農するという。陽平が「土地を離れて、天陽の絵を売れば当面の生活は大丈夫だって。」と言うと、靖枝は「嫌です！私はここから絶対離れません！絵も売りません！」と声を荒げる。
靖枝は「私には陽ちゃんがあの日、自分の命をこの土地に、土に撒くために帰ってきたとしか思えません。」と言う。
天陽の子供たちは「母ちゃんを助けて僕が働くから、ここにいたいよ。」と立ち上がる。正治はこの土地で働くことを決めた。
天陽との約束はこれからも続く
天陽が死んだ畑の土に耳をあてる靖枝。
そこに泰樹が現れる。「天陽に会いに来た。天陽はここにおる。そのことをあんたが忘れなければ天陽はいつまでも生きていられるべ。わしの中にも天陽はおる。」
靖枝は涙を流し一礼した。
陽平とアトリエを訪れるなつ。陽平は天陽が描いた自画像を見て「あいつはこんなふうにずっとここに居たんだよな・・・。絵を描いて売ることはあいつは自然なことだ、と言ってたよ。『食べるために狩りをしていると思えば自然なことだろう。』と。」と言った。
なつに語りかける天陽の自画像。「アニメータを辞めたいと思ってるのか？優ちゃんが君の答えだろ？今は。絵を動かすのが君の仕事って言われたんだろ？それで十分だろ。今のなっちゃんを動かしてるのは優ちゃんだろ。そしたら優ちゃんのために狩りをすればいいべさ。なっちゃんずっと俺との約束を守ってくれたべさ。」
なつは昔、天陽に言われた「どこにいたってなっちゃんと俺はそこにいたって広いキャンバスで繋がってる。がんばれ。」という言葉を思い出した。
「これからも頑張れ。」そう言うと天陽は手を差し出した。なつがその手を握ろうとすると天陽の姿は消えて無くなった。
なつは涙し「天陽くん・・。ありがとう。」と何度も言った。その顔は泣きながらも少し微笑んでいた。
