朝顔は桑原のことを話そうと平に声をかけるが、避けられてしまう。
その時、火災で複数の死傷者が出た報せのメールが朝顔と平に届き、話はそこで終わる。
朝顔は仕事場に行くが、夏目はメキシコから飛行機が飛ばず、帰れないことを知る。
遺体が届き、警察の現場の状況説明を受けながら朝顔は眉をひそめる。
火災現場で、5人出入りしたのに4人しか遺体がないこと、5人のうち誰が部屋に残っていたのか特定して欲しいと言われる。
朝顔は遺体に「教えてください、お願いします」と祈り解剖に入ったものの、焼死体の性別くらいしか分からず難航してしまう。
桑原は、放火があった建物に出前を運んだラーメン屋や建物の持ち主に、地道に聞き込みをするがこちらも難航していた。
一方解剖では死因が「焼死体」で間違いない点は判明するも、昼から始まった解剖は夜になっても終わらない。
その夜の警察の会議で、家賃のトラブルがあるのではとドリームファイナンスの名前が上がる。
また、放火に使用された薬品の出所は近くの工場の物だろうと、調べで判明した。
平はドリームファイナンスが気になるので調べていいか上司に聞き、OKをもらう。
疲労のピークと発見される手がかり
夜も遅くなり、3体目の解剖に入るものの、藤堂の疲れが見え始める。
平は県警時代の同僚のツテをたどり、ドリームファイナンスのことを聞き込みすると、鬼塚組の闇金で1年ほど前に3人逮捕されているのが分かる。
深夜1時に解剖をしていると藤堂が疲れで苛立ってくる。
朝方になり桑原も山倉に寝てくるよう言われるが、それより捜査させてほしいと頼む。
結局その願いは却下され、桑原は休みに行く。
一晩中解剖していた朝顔たちは、疲労がピークになっていた。
朝になり夏目が帰国し、朝顔が現在分かっている情報を説明し、写真と照らし合わせて誰が誰かを確認。
最後の4人目の遺体を夏目とともに解剖する朝顔は、遺体の中に金属片を発見する。
その金属片を警察へ持っていくと、ICチップではないかと推理され、科捜研に持っていくことに。
心臓に多量に血が溜まっていること、心臓から出血していること、心臓が傷つけられているのも判明。
4人目の遺体は焼死ではなく、それより前に殺されている可能性がある、朝顔は警察にそれを伝えたのだった。
焼死か他殺か、解決への道
金属片は運転免許証のICチップなことが分かり、それによって身元が判明。
桑原はその資料を急いでコピーし、その様子を平はやや複雑な表情で見つめていた。
判明した身元「井上コウジ」の部屋を捜索していると、井上雄一という名前の保険証が出てきて、桑原はその資料を持ち病院に聞き込みに行くと、病院は「この人なら火傷の治療で昨日も来た」と告げる。
どういうことか困惑し、桑原は急いで携帯で報告していると、ちょうどその時「井上」が病院へ入ろうとしたのに気づき、声をかける。
振り返った男は、逃げ出し、桑原は必死に追いかけたが、井上は橋から飛び降りようとしてたところを桑原が確保した。
「井上雄一」の職場に来た平は、井上の上司から足が悪いことを知り、井上の写真を見せられる。
運転免許に写ってる画像の人物とは、別人であった。
その頃、朝顔は人体模型を使いながら、殺された男について考えていると、平から解剖の時に下肢に障害はなかったかと問い合わせがあった。
夏目と朝顔たちは解剖を見直し、遺体は井上コウジではなく「井上雄一」だったのが分かる。
その他の遺体の身元が判明し、調べると鬼塚組の関係者だった。
朝顔は井上雄一を殺したのは身長は180センチ以上の人間だと推測し、平はその情報をもって警察へ戻る。
平は逮捕された井上コウジの取り調べをすると、桑原が「目の前の兄が殺されて復讐のために放火したのか」と問いかける。
井上雄一は犯罪者の一員になっている弟コウジを心配し、金を持って犯罪一味から弟を救おうとした。
けれどそれを面白く思わなかった鬼塚組の一人が、雄一の背中を刺したのだった。
雄一は兄の仇を打とうとし、薬品を使って放火に及んだ。
平の気持ちと二人のこれから
事件が解決し、県警本部の面々が所轄から帰っていく。
県警の本宮は、平に桑原のことを「面白い子」と評価し、平は軽く肯くのだった。
夏目は朝顔を屋上で飲みに誘い、夏目はそろそろ朝顔に試験を受けてはどうか聞き、朝顔は受けることに決める。
平は桑原と一緒に酒を飲み、桑原は平の様子で朝顔とのことを知られたのを察する。
桑原は遅れて申し訳なかったと頭を下げ、結婚を前提でおつきあいをしていると告げた。
平は妻が津波に遭った時、自分は仕事で、朝顔は朝顔自身を責めているだと言う。
刑事は事件が起きたら仕事に没頭するが、きみも朝顔に寂しい思いをさせるかもしれない、それでも朝顔はきみを選んだ。
「娘をよろしく頼む」
平に言われ、桑原は泣きだしてしまう。
桑原は顔を洗いに行き、平は酒を一気に飲み干した。
朝顔が家に帰ると、なぜか桑原が居間にいて、酔っぱらって寝ているのだった。
翌朝、桑原は衝撃を受けたまま、朝顔にどういうことかと責められ、桑原は落ち込んで頭を下げる。
桑原は味噌汁とおにぎりを朝顔と一緒に食べながら、平の話になる。
その時、桑原の電話に変死体の連絡が入るのだった。
一緒に現場へ行くと、若い女性が亡くなっており、青酸化合物を飲んでいる可能性があると分かるのだった。

ドラマ「監察医 朝顔」3話の感想
警察も朝顔たちも寝ずに犯人の手掛かりを探す様子が緊張感があり、1時間があっという間でした。
そんななか、朝顔と桑原と平の3人の微妙な空気感がいたるところで感じられ、とくに平が桑原を見つめる視線が、部下というだけでなく、娘の彼氏を検めるような視線に感じられたのは気のせいではないでしょう。
所轄の桑原が県警の捜査にもっと関わっていきたいのに、そう出来ずに悔しがるシーンが印象的でした。
けれど自分に出来ることをしようと、コピーを取りに行ったり、地道に聞き込みに出たり、一生懸命に仕事する姿は、平でなくても評価するでしょう。
事件が解決し、平と桑原が二人で朝顔のことを話すシーン、妻を津波で失くしてしまった自分の後悔が言葉少なではありましたが、ひしひしと感じました。
桑原でなくても泣いてしまいますよね……。
そんな桑原ですが、翌朝に酔ってやらかした事実を朝顔に責められているシーンが、ちょっと可愛かったです。
二人のやりとりが微笑ましくて、良い夫婦になりそうだなと温かい気持ちになりました。
次回は青酸化合物とのこと、またしても手に汗握る1時間になりそうですね！
