高級フレンチレストランで客が窒息死！
苺は桃子と一緒に激安フレンチでランチを楽しみながら、帝都ホテルカップル殺害事件の顛末について話していた。
するとそこへ明智がやってきた。桃子が気を利かせて明智を呼んだのだ。
そして桃子は颯爽と帰り、苺と明智を二人きりにしてあげるのだった。
この激安フレンチのお店は大繁盛で、店内は若い客であふれていた。
一方、高級フレンチレストラン『メゾン・ヴェリテ』は閑散としていた。
しかし今日は【グルメ大名】という、食べレポの有名レビュアーが訪れていた。
『メゾン・ヴェリテ』はここのところ激安フレンチに押されていて人気が低迷していたので、シェフ・伊藤は気合を入れて料理を作るが…。
その夜、伊藤が食べレポを覗くと、グルメ大名がレビューを書き込んでいた。
するとそこには「至って普通のクラシックフレンチ。というか古い。この店なら向かいの激安フレンチに行った方がマシだ。二度と行かない。」と酷評されていた。
数日後、『メゾン・ヴェリテ』に救急車が到着する。
なんとあの【グルメ大名】がパンを詰まらせて窒息死し、搬送されたのだった…。
搬送される様子を明智が目撃する。明智は、グルメ大名が数日前に『メゾン・ヴェリテ』から出てくるのを見ていた。
その後、上遠野と高橋が『メゾン・ヴェリテ』を訪れ、伊藤や従業員に聞き込みに行く。
グルメ大名はパンドカンパーニュを勢いよく食べて窒息したとのことだが、高橋はパンドカンパーニュが何か分からなかったので、明智に聞きにいく。
その際、明智は『メゾン・ヴェリテ』の厨房にモナリザの絵葉書が飾ってあったと知り、マリアが絡んだ事件であると確信する。
その頃、明智の予想通り、伊藤がマリアとオンラインで通話していた…。
明智と苺が『メゾン・ヴェリテ』にディナーへ！
明智は食べレポを見て、窒息死したのが【グルメ大名】だということに気が付く。
そして苺を連れて『メゾン・ヴェリテ』にディナーへ行くのだった。
季節のコースを頼み、パンドカンパーニュも運ばれて来たのだが、きちんとスライスされていた。グルメ大名がこれを食べて窒息したとは考えにくい…。
料理はロッシーニをはじめ、どれも極上であった。苺も激安フレンチとのあまりの違いに感激する。
明智も「悪くない」と満足げだ。
そして明智は従業員に「シェフを呼んでくれるかな。」と頼む。
伊藤が明智と苺の前に姿を現す。
明智は伊藤から昔ルーブル美術館の近くで修業していたことを聞き出す。
明智は「ルーブル美術館。だから厨房にモナリザの絵葉書が飾ってあるんですか？」と問いかけ、伊藤は動揺しながらも「あれは大切な女性からもらったんです。」と答える。
13年前、伊藤が働いていたレストランにマリアが偶然やって来て、伊藤が作ったロッシーニを「美味しい」と褒めてくれた。
そしてマリアは伊藤に「美味しい料理のお礼に」と、モナリザの絵葉書をもらったとのこと。
そして明智は伊藤に「自分の料理を否定されたらどうしますか？」と際どい質問を投げかける。
伊藤は「殺しますね。例えば自家製のパンを口に詰め込んで…。」と話出すが、苺がグラスを落として割ってしまったことによって話は中断する。
事務所に戻ってきた後、明智は苺に、食べレポで『メゾン・ヴェリテ』を酷評している【グルメ大名】が、窒息死した人物だということを教える。
グルメ大名は他のお店も軒並み酷評していた。
明智が事件の真相を暴く！
翌日、明智は美食ライターに扮して、『メゾン・ヴェリテ』にいつも野菜を配達する八百屋の奥さんに話を聞きに行く。
あの日、奥さんが到着した時にはグルメ大名はとても苦しんでおり、必死に伊藤が介抱していたとのこと。
伊藤が「水を飲んでください！」と言ってグラスをグルメ大名に差し出していたのだが、グルメ大名の手がグラスにあたり、グラスが宙に舞ったそうだ。
明智が「グラスが割れたんですね。」と告げると、その奥さんは「あれ？そういえば割れていませんでした。」と答える。
その後、明智は苺に命令し、『メゾン・ヴェリテ』の厨房に潜入させ、グラスについて調べさせる。プラスチック製のグラスがあるはずだ。
しかし厨房にあったグラスは全て普通のガラスだった。
そのことを明智に告げると、「じゃあゴミ箱かもしれない。探せ。」と酷な命令する。
苺はなんとかゴミを事務所に持ち帰る。
すると、昨日苺が割ってしまったグラスの破片が入った紙袋が出てきた。
明智はピンときてその紙袋からひとつひとつ欠片を取りだしていく。
そして、プラスチックのグラスの欠片が出てきたのだった。
その夜、屋上で伊藤が佇んでいると、明智が現れる。
明智はモナリザのラべルが貼ってあるワインを持ってきて、グラスに注ぎ、伊藤に差し出す。
伊藤が受け取る直前、明智はグラスを落とす。
しかしグラスは割れない。ワインも零れない。
このグラスは二重のプラスチックで作られており、ワインも零れない仕組みになっているのだ
明智は「これはワインバージョンですが、水バージョンもありますよ。」と告げながら、先ほど『メゾン・ヴェリテ』のゴミから手に入れたグラスの欠片を掲げる。
それは二重になっていた。
続いて明智は、伊藤がグルメ大名を「フルコースをご馳走するので是非もう一度お越しください。」とでもメッセージを送り、グルメ大名を呼び出し、従業員が買い出しに出てる隙にパンドカンパーニュをグルメ大名の口に詰め込み、殺したのだろうと告げる。
そしてこれを計画したのはマリアだろう、と突き付ける。
伊藤は観念したようで、認めるのだった。
ただ、彼女に辿り着きたい！
明智は、マリアのことを「僕が、彼女を生み出してしまったんです。」と告げると、伊藤は「生み出した？…ふふ、多分ですが、彼女と出会って未知のあなたが生まれたんじゃないですか？よく分かりますよ。まさにこの僕がそうだから。」と告げる。
そして、伊藤はてっきり自分は警察に捕まるのだろうと思っていたのだが、明智は否定する。
「勘違いしているようですが、あなたとここでこうしていることは警察には話していません。
たとえ話したところで、グラスの欠片程度では証拠不十分で罪には問えない。
貴方の勝ちだ。いや、マリアの勝ちだ。そして申し訳ないが、僕はあなたのことは興味がない。僕は、ただ、彼女に辿り着きたい。それだけだ。どうすれば彼女に会える？」と明智は問いかける。
伊藤が「会ってどうする？」と尋ねると、明智は「彼女を止める。」と答える。
伊藤は「止めてどうする？彼女のことを本当に愛せるのはこの世に何人もいないんだろうな。俺は、マリアのしもべだ。あんたとは違う。」と告げ、去って行った。
その頃、マリアは一人で佇み、明智を想っていた。
「いつかあの人とこの街のレストランで一緒にワインを飲みたいわ。
でも今じゃないの。もっともっと殺してから。あの人がこの世界に絶望して初めて。あの人のマリアになる。
でも私は聖母じゃない。罪深き穢れた女。私の名前はマリアマグダラ。」と言葉を零すのだった。

伊藤はマリアと13年も前から知り合いだったのですね！その頃はまだマリアは普通の主婦でしたので、まさか殺人鬼になるとは思ってもみなかったでしょうね。
伊藤はマリアにかなり心酔していて、自らを堂々と「俺はマリアのしもべだ」というくらいですから、なんかもうマリアにぞっこんなんでしょう。
一方、明智も回を追うごとにマリアへの執着心？がめきめきと現れていますね。恋心、ではまだなさそうですが…う～ん、でももう知らず知らずのうちにやはりマリアに魅入られていそうですね。
来週登場する新たなマリアファミリーはどんな人物か、とても楽しみです！

ドラマ「美食探偵 明智五郎」は東村アキコ作、同名漫画になります。
あらすじ
表参道に小さな探偵事務所を構える明智五郎は非常に美食家である。
ある日、地味な女性から夫の浮気調査を依頼され着手すると、昼休みに夫が若い女の家に毎日通っていることが分かる。夫人に調査結果を報告した翌日、その若い女のアパートの前で夫が刺殺される。犯人は妻だと感づいた明智は、行きつけのレストランへ夫人を誘い、最後の晩餐を楽しむ。夫人は明智の目の前で崖から身を投げてしまうが、何日かして明智の元に差出人の名が「Maria Magdalene（=マグダラのマリア）」と書かれたエアメールが届き、明智は夫人が第二の人生を歩み始めたことに気が付くのだった。マリアはもう一度明智に会いたいと願い、殺意を抱く人々に知恵と手を貸し、様々な事件の裏で暗躍するようになる。

私は子供の頃、図書館にあった江戸川乱歩の小説や、テレビでやっていた探偵ものの映画、サスペンスドラマが大好きでした。
どの作品も怖いのに、登場人物はみな魅力的で、レトロでお洒落で、恐ろしくも美しい悪、みたいな作品たちに魅了されたものです。
この作品は、そんな世界観を私なりに漫画という形で表現したものですが、それがこの度ドラマ化されると聞いて、人生がループして子供の頃に見たブラウン管の中に明智とマリアが映り込むような不思議な感覚におそわれました。
