西郡の母親
運ばれてきた女性患者を見て、驚く西郡。女性は記憶がなく、身元が分かる物もないため家族との連絡も取れずにいた。
西郡が妹の千春に連絡を取り、深山にも女性が自分の母親だと告白する。女性は心臓外科の第一人者として知られる喜和子だった。
2年前に脳腫瘍が判明し、難手術を西郡が自ら執刀したものの、記憶を失くしてしまったのだった。
西郡に厳しかった喜和子の話をする千春は、西郡が喜和子を殺すつもりだったのではないかと深山に明かす。
一方、内田という60代の男性が入院する。記憶が3分程しかもたず、自分のことも33歳だと思っている。
付き添いの山口は内田の幼馴染みだが、今出川に内田のことを必死に頼む。内田はコルサコフ症候群を起こしていて、水頭症も進行していた。
喜和子の逆行性健忘はリハビリで様子を見るしかないという深山。取り切れていない腫瘍も、全部取るのはリスクが大きいと言う。
すると黒岩は、自分なら全摘すると言い出す。西郡がビビって取れなかったんじゃないのあと煽る黒岩。
包丁を隠し持つ山口
内田の病室に行った山口は、鞄に隠し持っていた包丁のケースがないことに気づき、慌てて探しに行こうとする。
するとそこに今出川がケースを持って現れて、山口に渡す。
カサブランカで深山が飲んでいると、黒岩が来る。西郡に言ったことを言い過ぎだとたしなめる深山。
来島に思いを寄せる幸子は、カサブランカに行くが緊張して飲み過ぎてしまい、記憶がないと小沢に報告する。
病室で、内田に昔のことを尋ねる山口。30年前の仕事のことなどを話す内田だが、突然記憶が途切れてしまう。
様子を伺う深山に、内田を注意して見るようにと頼む今出川。
内田を殺そうとする山口
内田が記憶を失くしているフリをしているのではないかと尋ねる山口。そうではないと思うと答える深山。
喜和子の再手術を千春に促したが、その気はないと断れたと黒岩に報告する犬飼。
病室に内田の姿が無く不審に思った深山。山口と外に出たと聞き、慌てて追いかけます。
内田を連れて外に出た山口は「ハッキリさせよう」と言い、昔の話をする。内田が昔、投資会社に入り、バブルがはじけた後に企業買収をして潰したことを話す山口。
そのせいで自分の父親が首を吊って死んでしまったことを話します。そして包丁を出そうとした瞬間、深山が現れます。
内田は借金を抱えた山口の父親の会社を二束三文で買収し、売り飛ばして莫大な利益を得たのだと言う。
記憶を失くしたと聞いて本当なのかと疑い、確かめた上で復讐しようと考えていたと言う山口。
そんな山口に深山は、確かに記憶は失っているものの感情を記憶する扁桃体は傷ついておらず、山口との感情の記憶は勝手に呼び起こされているのだと説明する。
「少なくともあなたのことを大好きですよ」と言う深山。その後、内田の元に行った山口は、包丁でリンゴをむいて一緒に食べるのだった。
黒岩にオペを頼む西郡
黒岩の元を訪れた西郡は、喜和子のオペを頼むと頭を下げる。
手術が始まり、出血が多いため1分間心臓を止めて、その間に全摘すると言う黒岩。オペ室に入室した西郡は、黒岩のオペを見守る。
1分間で全て取り切り、手術は成功するのだった。
家に帰り、自分を捨てたクセにと反抗する真実に「捨ててなんかいない」と言う深山。
トップナイフを目指すために、夫とケンカになるくらいならと家を出ただけで、真実のことは離れていても愛していると伝えるのだった。
目を覚ました喜和子に話しかける千春。喜和子は西郡の顔を見て「琢磨」と呼ぶのを聞き、ホッとする西郡だった。
