前回大反響だった、爺ちゃんとの別れを経験したサクラ。
今週はそんなサクラに少しずつ影が落とされていくことに……。
ここまで一話で一年でしたが、今回は2016年から2019年まで一気に過ぎていきます。

2019年12月
これ以上回復を望めないので専門の病院へ移せと病院側から言われ、同期の仲間たちは困り果てる。
その時、サクラの隣人夫婦の草真と小梅が病室に入り、サクラがこうなったのは自分たちのせいだと頭を下げるのだった。
2016年11月。
柊作が死んで1年経ったが、まだその死から立ち直ることができないサクラ。
仲間たちと素晴らしい建物を作るという最後の夢のために仕事を頑張っているが、その気持ちに反して体はなぜか元気が出ない。
そんななか、仕事が決まっていなかった隣人の草真がやっと仕事が決まり小梅は喜んでいた。
そして2018年1月。
散らかり、雑然とした部屋の中でサクラは過ごしており、百合からの「会えないか」というメールで目が覚める。
リクエスト店にいた同期のメンバーは「体調がすぐれない」というサクラのメールに落胆し、サクラの様子を心配になる。
菊夫はサクラが心配だから守ってやりたいと「プロポーズする」と言うが、百合たちが呆れて反対する。
引きこもりがちなサクラはこのままなら解雇になりかねず、仲間たちはどうにかしないとと話し合い、サクラに悩み相談をしようと決めた。
百合がサクラの部屋に行くと、サクラの部屋の汚さに驚く。
サクラは「なぜ仕事に行かなければいけないのかを考えると、体が動かない」と告げた。
百合はそんなサクラを連れ出し、菊夫のもとへ連れて行く。
菊夫は前に自分が担当した図書館へ連れて行き、昔話をしながらプロポーズしようとするが途端にやめて「自分のケツは自分で叩くしかない」と昔にサクラに言われた言葉を告げる。
けれど菊夫の話もサクラには響かず、次いで蓮太郎が実家のラーメン屋に連れて行き、自分が担当する設計図の意見を聞かせてほしいとサクラに聞くが「いいんじゃないでしょうか」とだけ言われ、肩透かしを食う。
それでも何か意見をと頼むが、サクラはいくら設計図を見ても何も浮かばず、泣き出してしまう。
すみれが現れてそんなサクラを抱きしめ、サクラが自分のせいで社史編纂室へ異動になったことを謝罪するが、すみれは「今年から人事に戻った」と話すと、サクラは「よかった」とさらに大泣きするのだった。
そして葵 はサクラと一緒に歩きながら、サクラの夢について話し「あの時はお前みたいなやつとは分かり合えないと思ったが、今はお前とは一生離れたくない」と話し、そのままサクラにプロポーズした。
サクラはそれに笑いながら「こんな私なんかと結婚したいなんていうから」と言い、プロポーズは結局うやむやになってしまった。
百合はサクラにオシャレして楽しもうと誘うが、サクラはネットで手当たりしだい洋服を買い始める。
百合は「サクラらしくない」と言い、サクラの夢を支えたいと言ったが、サクラに「もうやめてくれ」と拒絶される。
「夢があると偉いのか」とかつてのサクラとは思えない言葉を言うサクラに百合が怒り「ぶす！ぶすぶす！」と前に大喧嘩した時のように罵り「こんなことで喧嘩するなら友達になんかならなきゃよかった！」と叫んでその場を後にしたのだった。
遠くへ行ってしまった仲間
リクエスト店に行ったサクラは1週間分のカレーをもらいに行ったが、そこに同期のメンバーがいて丁度サクラのことを心配して話合っている最中だった。
サクラは「自分の感情が制御できない」と話し「私みたいなやつはもう放っておいてください」と店を出て行こうとする。
そんなサクラを呼び止め、自分たちはサクラに救われたんだから、どうしてもサクラには元気になってほしいと告げる。
亡くなった柊作のためにも元気に生きよう、今までのように他人に忖度しないでやっていこう。
同期のメンバーの言葉にサクラはお礼を言いながらも「自分が今までやってきたことが意味がないような気がするんです」「焦れば焦るほど体が動かない」と話す。
柊作が死ぬ前に送られたFAX「サクラは枯れない」「たくさんの人を幸せにする」という言葉が書かれていたが、自分はそんな人間ではない。
「お前ならできる、と言われることが辛い」
もう仲間なんて思わないでくれと言うサクラは、そのままリクエスト店を出て行くのだった。
落ち込んだまま帰る蓮太郎はすみれに「やっとっほんとの仲間ができたと思ったのに、何だったんだおれたち」と話す。
菊夫は実家の妹に電話し「大好きだったやつにフラれた」と言い、電話を切った。
葵と百合はお互い「大丈夫？」と気遣い、百合は「自分の世界が変わった気持ち」と話す。
「世界で一番信頼してずっとそばにいてくれると思ってた親友が、遠くに行ってしまった」
そう吐き出した百合を葵は抱きしめキスをしようとするが、咄嗟に百合は顔を背け、でも拒絶はせず抱きしめ合うのだった。
解雇通知書
朝、サクラの部屋の扉を叩く音がした。郵便局の書留だった。
花村建設からの「解雇通知書」で、黒川から「一度顔を出せ」と一筆添えられていた。
黒川は人事部長から専務になっており、サクラは退職届を提出する。
黒川は「残念だ、お前には期待していた」と言い、入社試験の時に面接したことを黒川が話し、会社の起爆剤になってくれると期待していたと話す。
黒川は「サクラは散ってしまったか」と話すが、何も言わずに出て行くのだった。
そのままサクラはリクエスト店へ行くが、リクエスト店はもうすぐ閉店するので注文を受けることはできないと言う。
仕事に頑張るサクラや同期のメンバーのためにも頑張っていたが、もうサクラも仲間たちも来ないので息子夫婦の面倒になろうと思うと話すのだった。
サクラは通りすがりにAIスピーカーを見て足を止める。
2019年3月
何もない部屋でAIにだけ話しかけるサクラは、AIにあれこれ注文し、AIに悩みを相談する。
柊作が死に、橋をかける夢をつぶしてしまったことをサクラが話すと、AIは「情報が少ないので答えられない」と返す。
「この世界で生きていくのはムリなのかな」
「どうして生きていくのはこんなにつらいの」
私たちには素晴らしい世界が待っていると、夢や希望にあふれていると思っていた。
「わたしみたいなのは死んだ方がいいのかな」
とAIに聞くサクラ。
「これからどうしたらいいのか」と聞くが、AIはネットで検索した情報を返すのだった。
サクラのいない世界に生きていたくない
サクラと1年以上会っていない仲間たちは、菊夫は会社を辞めて実家のある熊本へ行っていた。
蓮太郎はすみれと結婚し、百合は葵との子供を出産していた。
葵は百合にプロポーズするが、百合は「やめとく」と答える。
「あんたはまだサクラを諦めきれていないでしょ」と話す百合に葵は何も言えないのだった。
百合は仲間に「出産中に色々思い出した」と言い、その中で柊作に「サクラを頼む」と頭を下げられたことを話し、あんなに頭を下げられたのにこのままでいいのかと仲間に告げる。
百合は試したいことが一つあると言う。
サクラは何もない部屋で目が覚め、AIに話しかける。
その日はサクラの誕生日だった。
キッチンへ行くと、同期の仲間たちと撮った写真が隙間にあるのに気づき、手に取る。
その時、非通知で電話が入り取るとFAX音が流れ、玄関のドア下からFAXの紙が挟まれていくのに気付いた。
「俺たちはずっと待っている」
「お前とまた一緒に働ける日を」
「だから諦めない」
「サクラのいない世界に生きていたくない」
「じゃあまた明日」
ドア下から挟み込まれたFAX紙を見て、サクラはやっと本来の自分に戻れるような気がし、仲間たちのもとへ歩きだした。
外を歩いていると、隣人夫婦とその子供がおり、バイクが子供に向かっているのに気づく。
咄嗟に手を伸ばし、子供を抱えて地面を転がるサクラ。
隣人の草真と小梅が慌てて駆け寄るが、サクラはよろけた足で立ち上がり、部屋へ戻っていく。
「私には夢がある……」
仲間のことを思うサクラは、仲間たちの写真を掲げて微笑むのだった。
そして、病室で隣人夫婦の告白を聞いた同期たちはサクラが立ち直ろうとしていたのを察する。
仲間たちは「サクラのいない世界に生きていたくないから、また明日」と眠るサクラに告げて、病室を後にした。
その直後、ゆっくり目を開けるサクラの姿がそこにあるのだった。

・柊作が死んだあとも頑張って仕事をするサクラ
・心が少しずつ壊れて何もできず、会社に行けなくなる
・仲間たちの心配も拒絶し、自ら孤立しようとするサクラ
・月日が経ち、仲間たちはぞれぞれ生活するがサクラを諦めきれない
・やっと仲間の声が届いたが、直後にサクラは事故に遭う
「同期のサクラ」8話の感想
前回の終わりにサクラの無理が垣間見えたのですが、今回はいつも通りに見えても徐々に壊れていくサクラの様子が生々しく、胸が締め付けられるようでした。
色んなことが重なって、頑張ろうと思えば思うほど心が擦り切れて身動きできない、そんなサクラが痛々しかったです。
仲間たちが立ち直らせようと頑張りますが、どんどん空回っていく様子と、そんな仲間たちの声も「辛い」と逃げるサクラ。
最後の仲間からのFAXは胸が熱くなりましたね……サクラも自分は一人じゃないのだとやっと実感できて、亡くなった爺ちゃんも天国でホッとしたのではないでしょうか。
でも、その直後にあんな事故が起きて……。
来週はサクラがやっと目を覚ますようで、どうやってサクラが復活していくのか気になります。
