メディアの取材を受けていた真奈子に、医療ミスに関する事故調査の依頼が来る。早速開かれた調査委員会に出向く真奈子。
委員会には、弁護士である守も委員として加わっていた。守は医師免許も持っているのだった。
佐竹という75歳の男性が心肺停止の状態で救急搬送され、病院で心臓手術を受けたが回復することなく亡くなったしまったのだった。
その後、佐竹の遺族が葬儀の際に、手術痕の写真を何枚か撮り、医療ミスの可能性を指摘してきたのだと言う。写真に写っていた手術痕付近の皮膚が、かなり変色していたのだった。
だが撮られた写真は不鮮明で、信憑性が低いと判断した病院。
医療ミスの可能性も指摘する真奈子でしたが、それを否定する守。真奈子に対して挑発的な態度を取るのだった。
遺族に話を聞きたいと言う真奈子だったが、それに対しても口出しをする守だった。
野津田とともに、遺族の家を訪ねる真奈子。息子の誠司と妻のしのぶに話を聞くと、胸に大きなガーゼがかぶせてあり、不審に思ってガーゼを取ったところ、皮膚の色が変色したのだと説明する。
病理解剖をしなかった理由を聞くと、医師からやめた方がいいと言われたのだと言うしのぶ。
病院で話を聞く真奈子

病院を訪れた真奈子と野津田。病院の事務長の海崎の案内で、手術に立ち会わせてもらう。佐竹の手術を担当した椎名が執刀していた。
手術中に内容を記録しているのを見て、事故調に提出されたものと見比べる真奈子。手術室には記録用カメラも取り付けられていた。
手術後の椎名に事情を聞く真奈子。誠司が撮った写真を見せたところ、こんな状態には記憶がないと答える。
病理解剖をやらない方がいいと言ったことに関して聞くと、自分ではなく仙石という医師が説明したのだと言い、既に退職し今は薬品会社にいると言われる。
手術に立ち会った看護師2人にも話を聞く真奈子。ICUに移した時間を訪ねると、声を揃えて4時12分だと答えるのだった。
記録用カメラも見に行き、麻酔医の駒井からも話を聞くが、手術は順調に行われていたと説明される。当の手術の映像は、既に残っていないと言われてしまう真奈子だった。
帰ろうとした真奈子のところに、守がやってくる。
勝手に病院に来たことに文句を言った後、誠司父親に勘当され20年以上も疎遠だったことや、かなりの借金があることを指摘する。
仙石もやってきて話を聞く真奈子でしたが、ICUに移した時間などが曖昧なことに不審を抱く真奈子。
病理解剖を進めなかった話をすると、しのぶが体を傷つけたくないと言ったからだと説明する仙石。病院関係者と遺族の意見が食い違うことに違和感を抱くのだった。
その後、真奈子に「あの写真は本物だ」というメールが届く。

真奈子が研究室に帰ってくると、喜里子が郁美と共同開発しているでエモーショントレースカメラについての取材を受けていた。
喜里子が帰った後、志保にメールを見せる真奈子。一方郁美は野津田に、志保と真奈子の関係を話していた。
そこに真奈子と志保も来て、真奈子のために塩サバをバーナーであぶる野津田。
それを見ていた真奈子は、誠司が言っていた「肌が赤くなったり黒くなったりしていた」と言う言葉や、写真の手術痕を思い出していたのだった。
病院の手術室に医師や事故調の委員を集めた真奈子。誠司が撮った写真は火傷の痕で、手術中に何らかの原因で火傷を負ったのではないかとの仮説を説明する。
電気メスによる止血の作業をするように指示する真奈子。作業をする椎名をさえぎり、電気メスが長時間皮膚に当たったらどうなるかと言い、実際にメスを当てる真奈子。
すると守康が、多少の火傷は負うが写真のように広範囲な痕はつかないと指摘する。だが真奈子は、体にかけた覆布に当ててしまい火がついたらどうなるのかと言い、実際に当ててみる。
一向に火が付く様子は無く、真奈子の仮説は成立しないのだった。夜、志保や野津田と食事に行く真奈子だったが、再現実験の際の医師たちの表情から、いい線までいっていると言う真奈子。
志保の調べで、守康が病院の院長と懇意にしていることが判明する。匿名のメールに対して電気メスでは火傷はしなかったことや、イタズラだったのかと送り返す真奈子。だが翌日になっても、相手からの返信は来ていなかった。

マスコミが集まる中、事故調の中間報告会が開かれる。守康が中心となり、手術中の記録が公開されるとともに、病院側にミスはなかったとの見解を示す。
マスコミから真奈子に質問が飛び、写真がねつ造だったのかや失敗はなかったのかと聞かれるが、現時点では確認できておらず調査中だと答える真奈子。
そこに真奈子にメールが届く。それを見た真奈子は驚きながら野津田を呼んでスマホを渡す。
会見を終えようとする守康を引き留める真奈子。「さっきの発言は撤回します」と言い、病院側に胸が炎上し大きな火傷を負ったことが致命傷となった可能性が高いことを主張する。
真奈子の合図とともに、送られてきた映像をスクリーンに映し出す野津田。そこには手術の映像が映っていて、電気メスによって炎が上がる瞬間が映っていたのだった。

ラストの映像はかなり衝撃的な内容だっただけに、続きが気になります。誰が映像を真奈子に送ったのかも明らかになると思うので、次週は見逃せません。
