東洋動画で新しく始まるテレビ漫画”キックジャガー”の作画監督を務めることになったなつ。そして、”マコプロダクション”での仕事が始まった一久。
忙しい2人。優は茜が預ってもらうことになった。
キックジャガーは好評、なつが考えた最終回もお茶の間で大きな感動を呼び、大成功に終わった。
その後、茜は新しい子を妊娠する。その時、優は昼は保育園に預け、夜遅くなった時は茜にあずけていた。優を預けられなくなったなつは、次回は早く終わる仕事にしてもらおうと考える。
しかし、社長からは次回も作画監督をしてくれと懇願される。以前、直談判し産休明けの作画監督のお願いをしたこともあるなつは結局これを引き受ける。
引き受けたからには成功させようと忙しい日々を送るなつ。優は咲太郎に預かってもらうことになった。
「馬に乗りたい。」と言う優。なつは今度の夏休み、北海道に帰って馬に乗せてあげることを約束した。
そんなある日、なつの家を夕美子が訪れる。夕美子はいずれ農協を辞め雪月を手伝うという。
そして、天陽が入院中ということを伝える。風邪をこじらせただけと言うが・・・。

なつが描いた”大草原の小さな家”のイメージ絵を見られ「これ見たい。」と言った優。その言葉を聞いたなつは、東京の一久に電話をかけ、一久に持ちかけられた”大草原の小さな家”のアニメ化をやりたいことを伝えた。
一久は「わかった。帰ってから話そう。」と喜んだ。
電話を切ると、なつは富士子に「やっぱり仕事を続けるわ」と伝えた。
話を聞いた砂良は「なっちゃんは仕事を続けるべきだと思うわ。だって、なっちゃんの作品を千遥ちゃんもどこかで見てると思う。それを見てなっちゃんが元気なことを知って安心してるんでないかな。」と言った。
なつは「北海道まで、会いに来てくれたんだもんね。」と言うと、柴田家の皆は千遥のことを思い出し懐かしんだ。
なつの移籍を聞いた”マコプロダクション”のメンバーは
一方、一久は麻子に”大草原の小さな家”の企画書を渡すと、なつがやる気を出したことを伝える。つまり、なつが東洋動画からマコプロダクションに移るということだ。
麻子を始めマコプロダクションのメンバーはなつの移籍を喜んだ。
一久が考えた案は”大草原の小さな家”は原作ではなく原案。”大草原の小さな家”を元にオリジナルのストーリーを作るという。一久もまた、やる気に満ちていた。

一久は天陽に「なっちゃんのことをよろしくおねがいします。」と言われたことを思い出した。
