白蛇姫の仕上げが終わり一段落ついたなつ。新劇で出会った亀山蘭子が白蛇姫の声優を担当することになった。
なつは三度、動画の試験を受け合格。ついに、アニメーターとなる。
信哉が、千遥らしき女性の居場所を突き止める。なつと咲太郎はその女性に会いに行ったのだが、女性はなつたちを見てもピンときていない様子だった。

千遥らしき女性・本当の千遥
前回、千遥らしき女性に会いに行ったなつと咲太郎。なつたちの前を通る、ちはるらしき女性になつは思わず「ちはる！」と声をかける。
しかし、千遥らしき女性は「私は違います。」と否定する。千遥らしき女性の名前は”幸子（ゆきこ）”、年齢は19歳、隣りにいた川谷幸一の娘だという。
なつと咲太郎は川谷の家で、話を聞く。
千遥を預かっていた、なつの親戚は2年前に病気で亡くなっていた。
千遥は6歳の時、家出をしていて行方不明だという。咲太郎が出した、なつの北海道の住所が載っている手紙を持って行ったが、なつには会いに来なかった。
幸子は「ウチの母から逃げたんだと思います。」と言う。母が千遥にきつくあたっていたから、それが原因だと考えていた。
咲太郎は「おばさんはそんな人じゃないはず。」と動揺する。
幸一は、家内は自分が脚を怪我してお金がなくなって人が変わったという。
憤る咲太郎となつ。なつは「ずっと苦しんでいたんですか？」と聞く。
幸子は「千遥ちゃんはいつも笑っていました。嫌なことがあっても。だから平気なんだと思っていました。それが余計に母は苛立って、「馬鹿にしてるのか」と怒鳴って・・・。」
と言い、幸子と幸一は頭を下げ謝った。
思わず家を出たなつは泣いて打ちひしがれた。
奇跡は信じない
亜矢美の店に帰ってくるなつと咲太郎。そこには亜矢美と信哉の姿もあった。
咲太郎は、その日会った出来事を話す。咲太郎はなつを「千遥はきっと無事だ。」と励ます。亜矢美や信哉も励ますが、なつの顔は暗い。
なつは「そんな奇跡信じるの？お兄ちゃんの手紙持っててるのに、どうして連絡がないの？千遥は6歳だったんだよ？どうやって生きていくの？」
咲太郎たちの説得にも耳をもたずに、なつは自分の部屋に戻った。
ちはるに会いに行くなつたち
部屋に戻ると机の上に北海道から荷物と手紙が来ていた。手紙は富士子からだ。
なつの誕生日を祝い、なつのことを心配した心優しい手紙だ。荷物は誕生日プレゼントの万年筆。
千遥と比べて、自分の境遇の暖かさがなつには悲しかった。

すんなりと再会とはいきませんでしたね。しかも、辛い過去だったようで。まだ、死んでいるとは決まっていませんが、かなり悲しい展開でした。
