寄生虫学者・紐倉 哲（山下智久）は、関東近郊にある巨大な植物園を改造した自宅兼研究室に引きこもり、気のむくままに好きな寄生虫の研究をしている。
人嫌いでドSな変わり者だが、博識で天才的な頭脳を持つ男だ。右手がロボットハンドの義手であるのも特徴である。
紐倉（山下智久）は、５年前に亡くなった元助手・入谷（松下優也）との辛い記憶がフラッシュバックするたびに、ないはずの右手が痛む幻肢痛に苦しんでいた。そんな紐倉の様子を見かねた高家（濱田岳）は治療を勧める。だがそんな高家に、紐倉は激しく当たる。
ある日、牧野（菜々緒）は高家に、紐倉について書かれた海外のネットニュースを見せる。そこには『危険な実験をしていた日本人科学者Hとは？』『助手が謎の自殺！』など、気になる記述が……。
実は、牧野が務める内閣官房サイエンス・メディカル対策室では、紐倉をアドバイザーとして雇う話が持ち上がり、紐倉の過去を調べていたのだ。そして牧野は、最先端の科学技術を駆使したビジネスで大成功しているフューチャージーンという会社の情報を手に入れる。
CEOを務めているのは紐倉のCDC（アメリカ疫病予防管理センター）時代の元上司・福山和成（時任三郎）。福山なら紐倉の過去について知っていると考えた牧野は、高家を連れてフューチャージーンを訪ねる。

幻肢痛に悩まされる紐倉
ないはずの腕が度々痛む幻肢痛に悩まされている紐倉。右腕にまつわる記憶がフラッシュバックし度々痛むようだ。
放っておくと一生苦しむことになるだろうとのこと。
牧野はあるネットニュースを高家に見せる。日本人科学者H（紐倉）が危険な実験をしていた、助手を自殺に追いこんだ。というもの。
高家は否定するも牧野は「火のないところに煙は立たないでしょ？」と疑りを捨てなかった。
幻肢痛の治療を勧める高家
高家は紐倉に幻肢痛の治療を必死に勧める。
しかし、紐倉はそれを拒否する。
「俺は一人でも大丈夫だ。」
カウンセリングも催眠療法も過去に行ったが効果はなく、当時のことを思い出すとひどい幻肢痛が起こるという。
その当時とは入谷という男との出来事が関係しているという。
元上司・福山に紐倉について聞く高家、牧野
牧野は紐倉のCDC（アメリカ疫病予防管理センター）時代の元上司・福山なら当時のことを知っているのでは？と高家に福山に紐倉のことについて聞くことを提案する。
紐倉に問題がなければ、内閣官房サイエンス・メディカル対策室のアドバイザーとして招へいするとのこと。
福山の元を訪ねる二人。
「紐倉は本当に入谷さんを自殺に追い込んだんでしょうか？」高家は核心に触れる。
福山は紐倉の過去について語り始める。
フィリピンの島で検診する紐倉と入谷
かつてCDCは島民を検診しアジアで流行っている感染症を調査していた。
島民と仲良くコミュニケーションを取りながら楽しそうに仕事をする紐倉と入谷。
二人は兄弟のように仲が良かった。
そこにマリアという一人の少女が運ばれてくる。マリアは息をあらく顔を赤ている。
「感染症かもしれない。」紐倉はそう言うと、入谷とともにマリアを診ることになった。
診断の結果、マリアはエボラウイルスにかかっていることが判明した。
当時アジアではエボラ感染症が発生したことはない。
福山はCDCにいそいで報告をした。
米軍の一斉調査
翌日、感染源を特定するため島には大勢の米軍が現れ島民全員を調査するよう紐倉たちに指示した。
厳重な装備で島民たちを診察する紐倉。入谷はマリアの具合を診るためマリアの元へ向かう。
しかし、そこには米軍の監視が行く手を阻む。
「感染者の選別を優先してくれと上から指示が出ている。」
福山から、重症患者だけでもヘリコプターで搬送できないか？と交渉するも答えはノー。
この米軍の対応に紐倉は違和感を感じた。
米軍のが隠していること
紐倉は、昨日連絡しただけで米軍がこんなに早く、孤島に大勢で訪れたことに疑問を抱く。
これに入谷は「米軍はエボラが発症することを知っていたのか？」と仮説を唱える。
「どうやってマリアが感染したのか感染元を調べろ。」紐倉と入谷は独自で調査を始める。
島民から聞いた、マリアが遊んでいたジャングルの川に向かう二人。
川辺には墜落した米軍機の破片が転がっていた。その中にはガスマスクやエボラウイルスが入ったカプセルがあった。
米軍はエボラウイルスを輸送し墜落、そこからマリアは感染していたのだ。
「新しい生物兵器として開発するつもりだったのかもしれない。」
そう紐倉はつぶやいた。
亡くなったマリアに入谷は
二人が現場に戻ると、布にくるまれたマリアの遺体が運ばれていた。
泣きながら遺体に駆け寄ろうとするマリアの兄、それを静止する米軍。
マリアをかわいがっていた入谷も取り乱し駆け寄ろうとするが紐倉に抑えられる。
そんな時に、福山から撤退の報告が入る。
興奮した入谷は
「病原体を持ち帰って治療薬を作ろう！」
と紐倉に言う。
紐倉は冷静に
「僕たちにそんな力はない。中途半端な正義感で動くな。米軍の司令官キャラウェイに見つかったらただじゃすまないぞ。」
と忠告した。
「わかったよ。」
入谷は納得いかない様子でその場を去った。
その後の島と米軍のたくらみ
日本に帰った後「変わったことはないですか？」とキャラウェイに聞かれる紐倉。
「特にありません。島の様子はどうですか？」と言う。
「数人の犠牲者は出たが、その後感染は落ち着き元の状態に戻ったよ。」とキャラウェイは答えた。
紐倉と入谷の携帯には島民から写真が送られていた。遺体を焼いている写真だ。
入谷が「何かあったら連絡してくれ」と携帯を渡していたのだ。
その後、島民とは連絡がつかなくなった。
入谷曰く
「島民は全滅。エボラウィルスは通常のものではなく人工的に感染力も殺傷力も高められたもの。軍によって開発された生物兵器。米軍はそれを隠ぺいした。」
入谷は病原体を持ち込んで独自で研究していたのだ。
紐倉は研究を中止するよう説得する。
「キャラウェイも感づいてるぞ。」
外にはすでに入谷を抹殺しに米軍に囲まれていた。
米軍に狙われる入谷
屋上に逃げる入谷、それを負う紐倉。
二人は米軍のスナイパー群の照準の中だ。
入谷は大声で
「お前は関係ない！お前のせいで俺の計画はむちゃくちゃだ！」
と英語で叫び、屋上から飛び降りた。
寸でのところで入谷の腕をつかんだ紐倉。中ぶらりの入谷を必死で引っ張り上げようとする。
そこに米軍が入谷を狙って放った銃弾が紐倉の腕に当たる。
入谷を掴んでいた紐倉の腕はちぎれ、入谷は落ちて行った。
紐倉と話す高家
紐倉の元に行き、福山から入谷とのことを聞いたことを話す高家。
福山からもらった入谷に関する資料を見せる。
入谷は持ち帰ったエボラの研究している時に自身もエボラウイルスに感染していた。
紐倉を共犯者にしたくなかった入谷はそのことを内緒にし、屋上で紐倉を罵った時も米軍にそのことをアピールするためだった。と高家は言う。
入谷の日記には「紐倉 哲の助手でよかった。哲、ありがとう。」と書かれていた。
それを見た紐倉の頬には涙が伝った。
「一人では何もできない。君は優秀な助手だ。」そう高家に告げた。
米軍のエボラ研究は終わっていない？
実験室の冷凍庫から何かを取り出す福山。
それは当時、米軍機が墜落したフィリピン川辺に落ちていたエボラウイルスの入ったカプセルだった。

ドラマ「インハンド」5話の感想
今回は、紐倉の過去、腕を亡くしたエピソードの回でしたね。
紐倉が入谷を自殺に追いこんだなんていうネットニュースが出ていましたが、結果は全くの逆で二人は熱い友情で結ばれていましたね。
今回、紐倉は幻肢痛を治しただけでなく、高家との絆が深まって、さらに紐倉の心の殻が少し破けたような気がしますね。
最後に、福山がまだ米軍が開発したエボラウイルスの研究を続けていると思わせる終わり方はにくいですね。
米軍の悪が暴かれる可能性を予感させる終わり方でした。
あのまま終わっていたら米軍に何の制裁もなくモヤッとしていましたからね。
